
MOGOLLON
Mogollon is one of New Mexico's finest ghost towns, rich in history and unique residents, Your visit would not be complete without a hike to Graveyard Gulch's old graveyard. The museum boasts even more local history. It is well worth the trip, but be advised, the road to Mogollon can be intimidating.

CATWALK RECREATION AREA
The Catwalk's history began with the discovery of gold and silver in the rugged Mogollon Mountains. Experience an all-access trail that is a slot-canyoned, nature-trailed, tree-lined, water-featured, and wildlife delight, courtesy of a raised metal catwalk. The park is a day use fee site with picnic tables and restrooms.

COSMIC CAMPGROUND
This CCIDSS is situated between the Gila Wilderness and the Blue Range Primitive Area on land managed by the USFS. The campground is located in an exceptionally dark night sky area and offers very basic support for campers but features a 360-degree, unobstructed, view of the night sky.

GILA WILDERNESS
Hiking, biking, and equestrian trails abound in one of America's largest and oldest wilderness areas. Created in June 1924 at the urging of Aldo Leopold, it was the world's first designated wilderness. The Gila River flows through the heart of the area, bringing water to a desert landscape.

GILA CLIFF DWELLINGS
This national monument offers a glimpse into the homes and lives of the Mogollon people who lived in this area over 700 years ago. They built rooms, crafted pottery and raised children in the cliff dwellings for about twenty years. You can hike to the dwellings, take a guided tour, and view the local wildlife. No pets allowed.

GLENWOOD FISH HATCHERY
The historic Glenwood Fish Hatchery was built in 1938 and is the exclusive producer of native Gila trout. Once the Gila trout reach a mature age, they will be stocked into their native waters in southwest New Mexico. In the meantime, you can fish at the hatchery and enjoy a self-guided tour. The hatchery is also considered to be a birding hotspot with over 202 species identified to date.

GLENWOOD GUN RANGE
Glenwood offers a public shooting range for outdoor pistol and rifle use. There are shooting benches and limited targets. The range is located off Hwy 180 on Mineral Creek Road.
Safety best practices are to be observed at all times. Please ensure you clean up your shooting area and collect your spent casings.

HISTORIC SILVER CITY
Silver City boasts a rich and diverse history intertwined with its mining roots and cultures of its past residents. Known for its vibrant arts community, downtown Silver City hosts a variety of galleries, gift shops, historic buildings, fine restaurants and bars, and quaint homes. For a glimpse of the region's history and archeology, visit the Silver City and WNMU museums.

ONE MILLION BONES
Silver City decided to embrace the One Million Bones project as its own. Partners in Bear Mountain Arts offered to host One Million Bones in a moving permanent installation on location at Bear Mountain Lodge. In 2018, ceramic bones remaining from the original installation started to be laid in a wide meadow in the wilderness surrounding the lodge.

CITY OF ROCKS STATE PARK
City of Rocks, located in the Chihuahuan desert region, gets its name from incredible volcanic rock formations rising as high as 40 feet, resembling a cityscape. The park offers a variety of activities including hiking, mountain biking, camping, stargazing, wildlife viewing, birding, picnic areas, a botanical garden, and a visitor center with restrooms and showers.

SAN FRANCISCO HOT SPRINGS
Enjoy a fun but challenging hike to this relaxing, primitive rock and gravel hot springs located in the beautiful Gila National Forest along the largest tributary, San Francisco River, in Southwest New Mexico. Be sure to bring lots of water, sunscreen and your swimsuit. The hot springs are free to use but please leave it as you found it.

WHITEWATER MESA LABYRINTHS
Cordelia Rose has enjoyed designing and creating numerous labyrinths used by both humans and animals. WML hosts annual events including a kite flying picnic in April, Standing Women in May, and World Healing Day in December. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Bring a rock to add to one of the labyrinths.

ALDO LEOPOLD VISTA PICNIC AREA
Located off US Hwy 180, Aldo Leopold Vista offers stunning views of the Mogollon Mountains, the Gila Wilderness, the San Francisco River Valley, and the high plains of Mule Creek. See interpretive panels and a brief history of wilderness preservation. Check out the mosaic picnic tables created by the Youth Mural Program.

PLAYGROUND @ GLENWOOD COMMUNITY PARK
Kids can enjoy climbing, sliding, zip-lining, teeter-tottering, and swinging at the park. Community volunteers moved and reinstalled this equipment in 2025, a welcome addition to the park. It provides a wonderful opportunity for the entire family to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air, beautiful views, and maybe even some deer.

PLAYGROUND @ GLENWOOD COMMUNITY LIBRARY
Enjoy outdoor fun at the library's playground. In addition to climbing, sliding and swinging, there is a four-square court, a tetherball pole, yard games, trikes, and scooters. When you are ready for some quiet time, step into the library and find a book. There is also a board game cart, an art cart , and a kid's room in the Annex.
